Fit and sizing for pugs
The shell sits over the back, so the body straps need to sit behind the front legs without rubbing. Measure girth and choose the size that leaves a finger of slack.

A note on pugs and costumes
Pugs are a brachycephalic breed, which means they cool themselves less efficiently than long-nosed dogs. Keep costume sessions short in warm rooms, make sure nothing sits tight around the neck or chest, and take the outfit off if your pug's breathing changes. Pugs have a broad chest, a thick neck and a short back, so the chest is the measurement that matters most. Use a soft measuring tape and measure snugly, not tight.
- Chest girth: around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
- Neck: around the base of the neck, where the collar sits.
- Back length: from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
- Weight: helpful as a check, but always go by the chest first.
